Great or sacrilege?
Design house Zagato recently made a big splash on the shores of Lake Como. During the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, not only did the Bovensiepen Zagato, created in collaboration with Alpina, shine, but also this unique Alfa Romeo 8C DoppiaCoda Zagato.
The Alfa Romeo 8C DoppiaCoda Zagato’s name already gives away that it is richly late. The unique Italian is based on the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione presented in Paris in 2006. That exotic, designed by Wolfgang Egger, was produced in an extremely limited edition of 500 units. Zagato and an undoubtedly wealthy 8C Competizione owner felt that it could be even more exclusive. In 2022, Zagato conjured the Alfa Romeo Giulia SWB Zagato out of thin air, this year it is raising this unique Alfa Romeo 8C DoppiaCoda Zagato onto the stage.
Anyone who has a warm heart for the 8C Competizione will probably not be particularly happy with the intensity with which Zagato has cut into the Alfa Romeo. The car has different doors, new front fenders, a bumper with larger and extra air intakes, and even a largely different rear. As the crown on the strawberry, we find a large spoiler at the top of the rear. Underneath, no remnant of the rear window, but a double bubble shaped piece of sheet metal. There seems to be no question of engine modifications.
