Successors in the making

The Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio get to stay longer. Alfa’s competitors for the BMW 3-series and X3 were supposed to retire soon, but that’s not going to happen.
The Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio are no longer youngsters. Stellantis naturally realizes this too. The duo, still developed under the FCA banner, is not being forgotten. Later this year, Alfa Romeo will present a new Stelvio, with the new Alfa Romeo Giulia scheduled for early next year. The arrival of the new Stelvio and Giulia means the current models will go out of production. This was supposed to happen soon, but the future now looks very different.
The careers of the Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio are being extended by as much as two years. Motor1 reports this based on statements from none other than Alfa Romeo CEO Santi Ficili. The pair will remain in production at least until sometime in 2027. Keeping these two older fuel models alive longer has to do with their successors. These were initially intended to be pure EVs, but later Stellantis decided to make the technical platform also suitable for combustion engines. Apparently more time is needed for the development of the fuel versions of the new Stelvio and Giulia. The Alfa Romeo Giulia is now ten years old, while the Stelvio is about a year younger. They will thus be allowed to reach twelve and eleven years old respectively.
