Audi Q9 storms the Nürburgring

Outdoor natural habitat

Is there life beyond the Q7? Of course! The Audi Q9 is coming and now Audi thinks it is time to investigate the sporting qualities of this colossus.

While close competitors BMW and Mercedes-Benz have been offering an SUV alternative to their top limousines for quite some time, the Audi A8 has yet to go it alone. If you want a large SUV with four rings on the nose, then you have to rely on the Q7, which is the taller brother of the Audi A6. Now, however, an answer to the BMW X7 and Mercedes-Benz GLS is on its way, in the form of the – how could it be otherwise – Audi Q9. We now see them rushing by again in camouflage suits, in a somewhat uncomfortable place for such a huge SUV.

The Q9, which we last had on the site in March, is being chased across the Nürburgring-Nordschleife. We probably won’t see it there again soon after the unveiling, but it is of course an extremely suitable place to discover how the mastodon holds up when everything inside is wrung out. Unfortunately for us, Audi has not been more economical with the psychedelic wrap than it was six months ago. However, because of the angle of the photos, we now see a little better what the rear lights of the Q9 look like.

From front to back, there are strong similarities with the next generation of the Q7, which, however, has a slightly different third side window and D-pillar. The rear license plate of the Q9 is also a lot lower and the nose also looks a bit longer. In any case, there is a good chance that the Q9 technically shares a lot with its smaller brother. No shame for a top-class SUV, because that MLB base is also used for the Bentley Bentayga, for example. Assume that plug-ins with more than 100 km of electric driving range will arrive in the field of electrification. There will probably also be an SQ9 with at least 500 hp, in response to the BMW X7 M60i and Mercedes-AMG GLS.
