BMW cuts the XM out of the BMW XM

The entry-level and the top-end remain

BMW XM

The XM is not one of BMW’s greatest successes. The BMW XM is entering its next phase of life with only two engine versions. The entry-level and the top-end variant remain.

BMW’s perhaps most polarizing SUV is entering its next phase of life with two instead of three engine versions. The XM – always an M model – was presented in two variants in September 2022. Both with V8. The first was the 653 hp strong version that is still simply called XM. Above that, BMW parked the even more powerful Label Red with 748 hp and 1,000 Nm. Because the XM buyer doesn’t always need an eight-cylinder, BMW later added the XM 50e to the line-up. That was also a plug-in hybrid, but with a six-in-line instead of a V8. BMW is now streamlining the XM range, according to its own statement. In reality, it comes down to one engine version disappearing.

From now on, there is only one BMW XM with a V8. The simply named XM with 653 hp engine version disappears. The 748 hp top version – BMW calls it only ‘Label’ – and the 476 hp XM 50e with six-cylinder are now the only available variants.

For the XM Label, BMW is adding a new Individual paint (Frozen Tanzanite Blue) to the spray booth and the complete grille can now be finished in gloss black. More small news: the headlights have learned a new welcome animation and the top version of the XM now stands on 22-inch double-spoke ‘Style 922 M Bicolour’ wheels. Those slippers are a size larger than the previous copies. BMW has also devised new options for the interior – including color and material options. Good news: the battery can now be charged with 11 kW instead of 7.4 kW.

Significantly cheaper

The 653 hp BMW XM is no longer available with immediate effect. The BMW XM 50e is available from €132,000, for the XM Label you pay €182,846. That makes that top version just over €21,000 cheaper.
