The immensely popular Volvo XC60 is getting a new birthplace. From the end of next year, the SUV will also be produced in the United States.
Age is just a number. The Volvo XC60 proves that. Despite the current model being seven years old, it is the most popular Volvo worldwide year after year. The XC60 is also Volvo’s most popular model in the United States. Of the more than 125,000 Volvos sold in the United States in 2025, 38,892 were XC60s. The XC60 was narrowly surpassed by the XC90 (39,492 units) last year, but in the first six months of this year, the XC60 is dominating its big brother. This year, 64,680 cars have been sold in the United States, of which almost 34 percent (21,907 units) were XC60s. To ensure the local success of the Volvo XC60, Volvo is adding the SUV to its American production portfolio.
From the end of 2026, the first examples of the Volvo XC60 should be rolling off the production line at Volvo’s factory in Ridgeville (South Carolina). Volvo also produces the EX90 and the Polestar 3 there. According to Volvo, producing the XC60 in the US is in line with the brand’s intention to ‘build where it sells’ and that it ‘strengthens its position and attractiveness in the American market’. The fact that American president Donald Trump is threatening with hefty import tariffs for products from the European Union will certainly play a role in this. The Volvo XC60 is currently produced in Sweden and also sees the light of day in China, India, and Malaysia.
