End of story for Toyota Supra: sporty coupe still has a while

Everything Comes to an End

Toyota GR Supra A90 Final Edition

It’s almost over for the Toyota Supra. We secretly knew that already, but now we also know when the curtain will fall for the sporty Toyota.

Toyota already introduced a Final Edition of the GR Supra late last year. The introduction of that farewell model made it clear that the GR Supra doesn’t have much time left. The Japanese company is now thanking all Supra customers for their ‘patronage’ and announcing that production of the Toyota GR Supra will stop in March 2026.

After an almost endless period full of concept cars and teasers, Toyota finally presented the first new Supra in over 20 years in January 2019. The new Supra wasn’t entirely a Toyota product, but came about through a collaboration with BMW. The Toyota GR Supra is therefore a technical cousin of the BMW Z4 and, like that car, is (was) available with four- and six-cylinder engines. Not entirely surprising, the two models roll off the same production line. Not in a BMW or Toyota factory, but at Magna Steyr in Austria.

The Toyota GR Supra Final Edition has a 441 hp strong 3.0 inline-six, is covered with spoiler work and includes extra thick brakes, an Akrapovic exhaust system and an adapted cooling system. Only one of these is coming to the Netherlands and it costs €190,000. Of the Supra that will soon be waving goodbye, a total of 49 units were newly delivered in the Netherlands.

It seems that Toyota will give the Supra a follow-up more quickly this time. At least, in a way. It will soon show a new ‘supercar’, although it seems that muscle car will mainly continue the bloodline of cars like the Lexus LFA.
