Even in Italy Lancia does not lose the Ypsilon

Painful Progress

Lancia Ypsilon

The Lancia Ypsilon is not a bestseller. Not in the Netherlands and not even in its home country Italy. That must hurt the Italians. The previous Lancia Ypsilon, after all, was flying off the shelves.

The Lancia Ypsilon has so far not proven to be the sales success Stellantis had hoped for. In the Netherlands, only 48 units were registered in 2024, and in 2025, its first full sales year, Lancia only managed to sell 165 units in our country. In comparison: Stellantis cousins Opel Corsa and Peugeot 208 accounted for 4,283 and 4,719 units respectively in 2025. In Italy too, Lancia is, to say the least, struggling to sell the Ypsilon.

First off: the Ypsilon performed considerably less poorly in Italy than in the Netherlands. In 2025, 9,711 new Lancia Ypsilons were registered in Italy. That sounds like a lot by Dutch standards, but don’t forget that the Italian car market is much larger than ours. Last year, 388,000 new passenger cars were registered in the Netherlands, compared to over 1.5 million in Italy. In Italy, the Fiat Panda was the absolute king of the car market with over 102,000 units sold in 2025, followed by the Dacia Sandero and Jeep Avenger with about 50,000 registered units each. The Ypsilon doesn’t even make it into the Italian Top 10, where the MG ZS occupies the tenth spot with about 29,000 registrations.

Lancia Ypsilon

Even at an advanced age, the previous Lancia Ypsilon was immensely popular in Italy.

The Italian sales result of the Ypsilon becomes even more painful when you realize that the previous generation Ypsilon, even at an old age, was selling like hotcakes. In part of 2024, the previous Ypsilon was still for sale in Italy, which is reflected in the sales result of 32,175 units that year. In 2023, the model – which had not been supplied in the Netherlands since 2017 – was still the third most popular car in the country.

Lancia Ypsilon in the Netherlands

In the Netherlands, the 110 hp mild-hybrid Lancia Ypsilon starts from €30,800. For the 156 hp electric Ypsilon Electric, you’ll pay €33,700 in the Netherlands. For the sporty 280 hp electric Ypsilon HF, you’ll be out a little over €41,000.
