The new Rolls-Royce is heavy, unaffordable and completely electric

After or next to the Cullinan

Spy shots Rolls-Royce electric SUV

Years ago, whoever said Rolls-Royce would sell an SUV would undoubtedly end up in a straitjacket. Meanwhile, something like the Rolls-Royce Cullinan has existed for almost ten years. The English are coming with an even heavier car, if possible. You can see it in these spy photos.

It’s almost eight years since Rolls-Royce rammed a wrecking ball into a sacred house. With the Cullinan, it presented its first SUV in 2018. Named after the largest rough diamond ever found, the Rolls-Royce Cullinan, like the Ghost and Phantom, has a mighty V12 with two turbos and a displacement of almost seven liters. The twelve-cylinder does not have eternal life. In these spy photos, we see an even heavier SUV that can last longer.

If you want an electric SUV with a design somewhat inspired by Rolls-Royce, you could have gone for the Chinese Hongqi E-HS9 for years. Do you want a real electric SUV from Rolls-Royce? Then you’ll have to wait until the car you see in these photos goes into production. We don’t yet know what the undoubtedly heavy model, due to the presence of a large battery pack, will be called. The electric Rolls’ appears lower than the Cullinan, has a long hood and likely a gigantic frunk underneath. The SUV has two-tier lighting at the front, vertically oriented light units at the rear, and is, of course, equipped with integrated door handles.

It is not yet known whether the electric behemoth stands on a new EV platform, or if it shares its technical basis with the electric Specter, Ghost, Phantom, and Cullinan. Undoubtedly, you will find BMW electric motors in it, just like in the Spectre. As a reminder: the Specter comes with two electric motors totaling 585 hp or – as a Black Badge – 659 hp and has a 102 kWh battery. Whether Rolls-Royce considers that sufficient for this SUV remains to be seen.
