Ferrari 296 Speciale will cost you almost €600 per horsepower!

For the Caterpillars That Are Never Satisfied

Ferrari 296 Speciale and Speciale A

There is an absolute top version of the Ferrari 296 that goes by the name Ferrari 296 Speciale. This also comes with a special price. It costs you almost €600 per horsepower. Unfortunately for your wallet, the Ferrari 296 Speciale has 880 of them…

Ferrari is perhaps the brand for those for whom exclusive is not exclusive enough. Recently, we saw with the SC40, which visually references the Ferrari F40, what is possible if you just bring enough money to Maranello. Of course, you can also turn to the Italians for special versions of existing models. In April this year, Ferrari unveiled the 296 Speciale and 296 Speciale A, respectively, extra hardcore versions of the 296 GTB and 296 GTS. We now have the price for the first one, and it is not gentle.

The Ferrari 296 Speciale costs a whopping €425,567 in the Netherlands. This makes it about €125,000 more expensive than the ‘normal’ 296 GTB, of which it is the superlative version. The Ferrari 296 Speciale, like the original, has a 3.0-liter V6 with two turbos. This six-cylinder works together with an electric motor. After all, it is a plug-in hybrid. The V6 produces 700 horsepower, making it 37 horsepower stronger than the one in the 296 GTB. The electric motor is 180 horsepower instead of 167 horsepower. This gives the 296 Speciale a system power of 880 horsepower.

In addition to being more powerful, the Ferrari 296 Speciale is also lighter and—thanks in part to adjustments to the chassis—sharper than the 296 GTB. Furthermore, new spoiler and wing work provide up to 20 percent more downforce. The 1,410-kilogram Ferrari 296 Speciale is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.8 seconds. The 0-200 sprint takes only 7 seconds. We do not yet have the Dutch price for the 296 Speciale A—the superlative version of the open 296 GTS.
