Volvo offers free home charging to make EV more attractive

Free charging, but not unlimited

Volvo EX30

Volvo hopes to entice more people to purchase one of its electric models by offering free home charging.

Anyone in Sweden who buys a new electric Volvo will receive free electricity from Volvo for one year starting February 2026 to charge their car at home. For this, the brand is collaborating with energy supplier Vattenfall. To benefit from this, you must have an energy contract with Vattenfall and be able to charge the EV at home using the same electricity meter and with the help of the charging function in the Volvo Cars app, as the manufacturer explains.

There are more conditions to Volvo’s method of attracting additional customers. For example, Volvo covers a maximum of 5,150 kWh per year, which according to the brand corresponds to 25,000 kilometers annually with an EX90. There is also a maximum electricity price of 1.5 SEK per kWh, equivalent to about €0.14 per kWh.

According to Volvo, this is initially a trial, although it states that ‘insights gained from the first phase in Sweden will form the basis for a broader global rollout.’ In this context, Volvo also says it wants to establish collaborations with other energy suppliers besides Vattenfall.
