Connecting
It will be busy again on roads in the Netherlands and popular European holiday destinations next weekend. A combination of departing holiday traffic, local congestion due to events and roadworks will lead to traffic jams from Friday afternoon, according to the ANWB traffic information service. Summer vacations start in the North region on Friday, which started a week earlier in the South region.
Most of the delay is expected on Friday afternoon on Brabant and Gelderland roads and at German border crossings. It will also be busy around Amsterdam. From Saturday, the Second Coentunnel towards Zaanstad will be closed for maintenance for nine weeks. Work will also be carried out on the A4 between the De Hoek and Burgerveen junctions near Schiphol from Friday for a month and a half. Fewer and narrower lanes are available there. The municipality of Amsterdam and Rijkswaterstaat had previously warned of “extreme inconvenience”. Events such as Bospop near Weert and North Sea Jazz in Ahoy Rotterdam can also lead to local delays.
Also busy towards holiday destinations
According to the ANWB, foreign traffic services also warn of “overcrowded roads”, especially on Saturday. Residents of France have a long weekend in connection with the national holiday Quatorze Juillet. It is expected to be very busy on the Autoroute du Soleil (A7) and on the A9 from Orange to the Spanish border.
Roadwork is being carried out in almost 1200 places in Germany, which is causing delays. In Austria, traffic is expected to be jammed on Saturday on the roads towards Slovenia and Croatia.
