Passing the European Nose
Not every Ford is the same, and one Ford Bronco is not the same as another. This is already the case, and the difference between the Ford Broncos is only getting bigger. Meet the Ford Bronco New Energy!
When you say Ford Bronco, you’ll likely also say something like ‘rugged off-roader’ in addition to O.J. Simpson. The Ford Bronco returned to the automotive world in two flavors in 2021. There is a rugged three- or five-door off-roader that is only delivered in the Netherlands as a 335 hp five-door, and a considerably more moderate model. That’s called Ford Bronco Sport and is not offered here. The Bronco Sport is a cross-over SUV-like on the platform of the Kuga that is delivered here. In China, there is now also an electric Ford Bronco, and it has nothing to do with the Bronco and Bronco Sport.
Meet the Ford Bronco New Energy, a creation of the collaboration that Ford has with Jiangling Motors in China. The Ford Bronco New Energy is 5.03 meters long, 1.96 meters wide, and 1.82 meters high and 1.96 meters wide. It comes with a fully electric powertrain and gets a variant with a range extender. The fully electric variant has a 275 hp electric motor on the rear axle and a 177 hp example on the front axle. The battery has a capacity of no less than 105.4 kWh. That combination gives the SUV a range of 650 kilometers. Note: according to the Chinese CLTC method. The car weight is a not-so-meager 2,650 kilos. Oof.
The variant with a range extender has a 43.7 kWh battery and a 150 hp 1.5. This version – actually a plug-in hybrid – kicks it up to a total range of 1,220 kilometers.
We do not expect both variants of the Ford Bronco ‘New Energy’ in the Netherlands.
