650 hp and 0-100 km/h in 3.2 seconds!
What do you get when the gentlemen and ladies of Hyundai’s N division get to unleash themselves on the Hyundai Ioniq 6 N? Exactly: an equally extremely winged and super strong EV that, as the Hyundai Ioniq 6 N, comes to taunt the Tesla Model 3 Performance.
For about ten years, electric cars have been available in the mid-segment and even below with power and performance previously only offered by supercars costing tons. Take the Tesla Model 3 Performance: with it, you and your family can silently ram yourselves from standstill to a speed of 100 km/h in just 3.1 seconds. Tired of Tesla, or do you simply find the appearance of the Tesla Model 3 Performance too subdued? Then keep a close eye on the Hyundai dealers. There you will soon find this Hyundai Ioniq 6 N. This production version of the RN22e shown in 2022 is the top version of the Ioniq and can compete with the Model 3 Performance, but combines its impressive performance with much more visual drama.
Full of visual spectacle: the Hyundai Ioniq 6 N.
In contrast to the Model 3 Performance, which on the outside only distinguishes itself from the less doped versions with slightly different bumper work, red brake calipers and a small rear spoiler, the Hyundai Ioniq 6 N shouts from the rooftops that it is insanely fast. You absolutely do not have to be an expert to understand the message that the fierce spoiler and bumper work of the Hyundai Ioniq 6 N brings: this is something special. For those who are not paying attention and are blown past by an Ioniq 6 N, the immense rear wing will still show from a great distance which electric excess has just demonstrated its skills.
650 hp!
Like the N version of the Ioniq 5, the Hyundai Ioniq 6 N also has two electric motors. The one on the rear wheels delivers 383 hp, the motor that deals with the front wheels accounts for 226 hp. Together they are good for 609 hp. Completely crazy of course, but it can get even crazier. Anyone who activates the N Grin Boost mode temporarily has 650 hp and 770 Nm at their disposal. That is 80 hp more than what a Ferrari 458 treated you to fifteen years ago. With N Launch Control enabled, the Hyundai Ioniq 6 N stomps from standstill to a speed of 100 km/h in just 3.2 seconds. Its top speed: 257 km/h. With this, the Ioniq 6 N performs at the level of the Model 3 Performance (0-100 km/h in 3.1 s, top speed: 262 km/h).
Hyundai does not yet state how many kilometers the Hyundai Ioniq 6 N squeezes out of its 84 kWh battery. Indeed: an 84 kWh battery and not the 77.4 kWh large unit that until now was the largest battery you could get in the Ioniq 6 N. We expect that the top version of the Ioniq 5 will certainly squeeze 500 electric kilometers out of it, but more about that later.
Extensively adjusted
Of course, the Hyundai Ioniq 6 N is more than an Ioniq 6 with a lot of power and an exuberant appearance. For example, the geometry of the chassis has been thoroughly adjusted and the top version has new electronically controlled dampers. The N version gets an improved version of N e-Shift (which simulates shift moments). The battery is less severely affected by degradation as a result of rising temperatures thanks to smart software management. The battery is also better cooled and the electric motors are also better resistant to heat thanks to better cooling. Thanks to N Battery Pre-conditioning, the battery can be preheated and thus ready for sprint and stamp work. An ignited Ioniq 6 N can be brought to rest again thanks to special lightweight braking. The brake discs have a diameter of 40 centimeters at the front and 36 centimeters at the rear.
The price of the Hyundai Ioniq 6 N is not yet known at this time. The Ioniq 5 N costs €73,995 and is therefore about €12,500 more expensive than the next most expensive and powerful Ioniq 5 in N-Line version. If we apply the same ratio to the Hyundai Ioniq 6, we arrive at a starting price of around €75,000 for the Hyundai Ioniq 6 N. In terms of price, the Ioniq 6 N leaves the Model 3 Performance behind. In a negative sense for the Hyundai. The Model 3 Performance is already available from €58,490.
