First damage has already been done

Stellantis, the car company behind brands such as Citroën, Fiat, Peugeot, Jeep and Opel, expects the costs of the US import duties to amount to approximately 1.5 billion euros this year.
The majority of these costs, approximately 1.2 billion euros, is expected in the second half of the year. In the first six months of 2025, the levies already had a negative impact of 300 million euros.
The car manufacturer confirmed that it suffered a net loss of 2.3 billion euros in the first half of the year. This is partly due to falling sales figures and the impact of US import duties.
Earlier this month, Stellantis already released preliminary half-year figures and warned of the billion-dollar loss. Chief Financial Officer Doug Ostermann already indicated that the impact of the levies in the second half will likely be “considerably” greater.
