VS8 above the VS7
Is it a Volkswagen, is it a Peugeot? No, neither. It’s a Jetta VS8!
The Volkswagen Group has an immense brand portfolio. It consists of Audi, Bentley, Lamborghini, Porsche, Seat, Cupra, Skoda, and relatively recent brands like Scout and… Jetta. Yes, Jetta. In Europe, you mainly know Jetta as the sedan sibling of the Golf, a model that some generations went by as Vento and Bora. In China, Jetta is a real brand. It was founded in 2019 by the FAW-Volkswagen joint venture and currently sells four models in China. A fifth will soon be added. It’s called Jetta VS8, and if we squint, we can even see a Peugeot influence.
The Jetta VS8 will be the big brother of the – you guessed it – VS7, which in turn is a step above the VS5. The VS5 is a cousin of familiar SUVs such as the Seat Ateca, Skoda Karoq, and the Chinese Volkswagen Tharu. The VS7, in turn, is related to the Seat Tarraco, Skoda Kodiaq, and the previous Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace. And the VS8? It is only a few mm longer than the VS7. It extends over a distance of 4.63 meters and has a wheelbase of 2.63 meters. Whether the VS8 will replace the VS7 or be positioned slightly above it is not yet entirely clear. The SUV has not yet been officially unveiled but is already clearly visible in this one from the database of the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
This Jetta VS7 also recently got a Peugeot-like grille.
Then the design of the car, which differs significantly from that of the current Jetta models. The grille in particular attracts attention, which reminds us of the grilles of cars such as the Peugeot 3008 and 5008. They also have a checkered pattern that becomes increasingly coarser outwards. In any case: the VS8 is striking. Of course, it will not come to the Netherlands, as Jetta is not offered here by the Volkswagen Group.
