Kia Sportage thoroughly facelifted: now the European

Subtly changed

Kia Sportage

More than six months ago, the curtain already rang the facelifted Kia Sportage in South Korea. Now it is the turn of the (essentially other) European Sportage.

At the beginning of November, the South Koreans ran the curtain of the facelifted Kia Sportage in their own country. Interesting news of course, because although the Sportage available there is a bit longer than the model that we know here, we already got a clear picture of what the facelift has. Today there is the official unveiling of ‘our’ facelifted Sportage. This thus produces few surprises. That does not mean that we naturally serve the facelifted European Kia Sportage.

Maybe at first glance you don’t even see it immediately, but a lot has changed. The Sportage now has a rectangular grille and the headlights are completely different. They walk down the flanks straight down, where they were a bit more angular in shape and walked towards the grille in a point. Lower in the nose it is striking that the lower grille is now rectangular and that the front bumper is also determined by straight lines. All in all, the facelift mainly involves a change of elegant lines to straight lines. At the back, Kia went a bit more subtly. The newly arranged rear lights stand out. Curious about what the Sportage looks like as a basic version? In addition to the GT-Line shown above, Kia already shares a few photos of a white baseline.

Kia Sportage

At first glance it seems known in the interior, but a lot has changed. For example, the dashboard has been overhauled and the ventilation grilles are slightly lower and more in one line. The button island centrally in the dashboard is also slightly different than before and the piano paint on the middle tunnel has disappeared. Even more striking is the whole new TwoSpaaks steering wheel and the now rectangular screens combination. By default there are two 12.3-inch screens present in the facelifted Kia Sportage, one for the instruments and one for the infotainment. There is also a new 10-inch head-up display.

The Kia Sportage will in any case come back on the market with mild hybrid and hybrid drive in facelifted form. In both cases, a 1.6 T-GDI is the main power source. The Hybrid becomes a stroke stronger than before: it gets a system power of 239 hp. Switching is again with a six-speed sequential automatic transmission, with the mild-hybrid Sportage there is a seven-speed automatic transmission with double clutch. Kia is still silent about the plug-in hybrid Sportage, but you can count that it will be there again.
