In a totally unexpected move Mitsubishi to provide the ASX with a new hybrid powertrain. It makes the car more powerful and more economical.
The Bot Japanese Mitsubishi ASX, raised on a diet of Misosoep and Sushi, gets a completely new 1.8-liter four-cylinder that delivers more power and more torque than the 1.6 in the ‘old’ hybrid ASX. The system power thus comes to 160 hp and the torque increases by around 25 percent. A new battery pack ensures that the ASX, incidentally, no plug-in, can drive electrically for longer. Changes to the complicated transmission with four mechanical and a number of electronic resources – those crazy Japanese people! – must contribute to the gas response and comfort.
All changes together also provide lower consumption. Mitsubishi promises a 5 percent reduced consumption for the ASX 1.8 HEV, where it is good to know that the ‘old’ 1.6 HEV kicked it up to 4.7 l/100 km (1 in 21.3). The Mitsubishi ASX 1.8 HEV is available from € 34,490 and is therefore just a bit more expensive than its direct predecessor despite the lower CO2 emissions, which was of you for € 33,990.
All the craziness on a stick: of course this ASX news has nothing to do with Japan and bar with Mitsubishi. The brand only lends its logos and a grill to the car, which is also a Renault Captur. And indeed: that car also recently received the new powertrain. The 1.8 debuted earlier in the Dacia Bigster and is a Renault product and is a product of Horse Powertrain, a joint venture from Renault and the Chinese Geely.
