New BMW IX3: up to 800 kilometers of reach and quickly charging

Huge Steps

BMW IX3

Later this year, BMW will launch a brand new iX3. This new BMW iX3 surpasses its predecessor in every way. It can travel up to 800 kilometers on a single charge and can fast charge at 400 kW.

2025 at BMW is all about the Neue Klasse. Neue Klasse is the collective name for a completely new model family from BMW. They are not only introducing a completely new design language for the brand, but also new technology. Especially in the electric field, the Neue Klasse models should score high. BMW is making a significant step forward in any case when it comes to electric propulsion. For example, it indicates that the new BMW iX3 – together with a new electric equivalent of the next generation 3-series – can travel up to 800 kilometers without recharging.

The current generation BMW iX3 achieves an electric range of 471 kilometers. The new BMW iX3 can therefore travel more than one and a half times as far on paper without recharging. Thanks to 800v technology, the new BMW iX3 can also DC-charge at a maximum of 400 kW, while the current generation can handle a maximum of 150 kW. Here too, the new iX3 greatly surpasses its predecessor. All these figures belong to a variant of the new iX3 that is called iX3 50 xDrive. A version with four-wheel drive. Undoubtedly there will also be milder – and perhaps more potent – versions.

Important here: while the current iX3 is an electric version of the previous generation X3 with combustion engines, the new iX3 is not an adapted version of the ‘new’ X3 presented in the middle of last year. The next generation BMW iX3 therefore shares no bolt, nut, plug or cord with the SUV from which it borrows part of its name. According to BMW, the new iX3 will feature Panoramic Vision, a piece of hardware and software that can project information across the entire width of the windshield. Optionally, the SUV gets a ‘3D head-up display’.

BMW indicates that it is currently busy testing the iX3. Curious about what is hidden under the camouflage of the iX3 shown by BMW? Then click here, AutoWeek was able to exclusively show you earlier what the car will actually look like.
