A manufacturer of unmanned army vehicles and one of dronebatters will start working at VDL in Born. Milrem Robotics and Tulip Tech will produce from the former Limburg car factory.
Since unmanned systems such as kamikazedrones, unmanned vehicles and robots dominate contemporary battlefield, their development and production have been taking great flights. Ukraine is there to jump drones, but the Netherlands and other Western allies also want to rest with it quickly.
The first contracts with Milrem Robotics and Tulip Tech were signed on Monday morning. According to Defense, hundreds of jobs are involved, depending on the final number of orders. The Dutch Dronemaker Deltaquad also wants to produce in Born. A declaration of intent has been signed with Deltaquad. “The orders fulfill multiple needs of the Dutch and the Ukrainian armed forces,” says Defense. “They also give an incentive to the Dutch defense industry.”
VDL built passenger cars in Born for decades. The last client was the BMW Group, for which VDL Nedcar models from Mini and the BMW X1 built. The Mitsubishi Colt, Smart Forfour, Mitsubishi Carisma and Volvo S40/V40 also rolled out of the band. It all started in the late 60s with DAF passenger cars.
