The current generation Lexus LS is on its last legs. In the future, a Lexus LS might be something completely different from a stretched luxury sedan. It takes some getting used to.
The Lexus LS in its current form doesn’t have much time left. The fifth generation of Lexus’ flagship sedan was introduced in 2017 and is no longer available for new orders in the Netherlands. In a few months, the nearly 5.25-meter-long competitor to models like the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, BMW 7 Series, and Audi A8 will be eight years old, which means it’s time for a replacement. We don’t yet know exactly what the future of the Lexus LS will look like, but there’s a good chance that the LS will soon be something very different from what you’re used to.
Later this month, Lexus will showcase a study model called the LS Concept at the Japan Mobility Show. This obviously indicates that Lexus is using this show car to gauge, to some extent, what it will do with the LS. The LS Concept is not a stretched four-door sedan but a massive MPV. With six wheels, mind you. The strikingly designed Lexus LS Concept has two axles at the rear, making it quite unique. The LS Concept will undoubtedly feature a luxuriously appointed interior with six seats. For now, we have to make do with a few shadowy images, but the message is clear: the LS might no longer be a sedan.
