Double Chinese Plug Barrage
The Omoda 9 has arrived in the Netherlands. It’s a powerful plug-in hybrid SUV that offers a lot for just over €50,000. We also have the prices for the slightly less powerful but still potent smaller Jaecoo 7.
Almost every week, the Dutch market is bombarded with a new Chinese SUV. This time, the Omoda 9 has arrived. It’s a powerful plug-in hybrid SUV that offers a lot for just over €50,000. It’s the newest and largest entry from one of the sub-brands of Chinese Chery. The Omoda 9 – known as the Exeed Yaoguang in China – is a 4.77-meter-long SUV, comparable in length to the Skoda Kodiaq. It only comes to the Netherlands as a plug-in hybrid and is very powerful, well-equipped, has a considerable electric range, and is relatively favorably priced.
Time to fill in those details. The Omoda 9’s powertrain is called ‘SHS’, which stands for Super Hybrid System. It consists of a 143 hp 1.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine and an electric motor both front and rear. The system power of the all-wheel-drive SUV is a pleasantly insane 535 hp and 650 Nm. That power helps the 2-ton SUV accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 5 seconds. More interesting is the electric range. Thanks to a 34.5-kWh battery, it’s a whopping 145 kilometers. Fast charging is possible with 70 kW. The luggage space offers 660 liters of storage. With the rear seats folded down, you can haul 1,783 liters.
The Dutch importer previously indicated that the Omoda 9 would cost around €50,000. We now have the final price: €52,900. For that money, you get 20-inch alloy wheels, a glass panoramic roof, an electrically operated tailgate, extensively electrically adjustable, heated and ventilated front seats with massage function and memory function for the driver’s seat, leather upholstery, a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel, an infotainment screen with the same diagonal, an induction charger, a heated steering wheel, and an extensive Sony audio system with fourteen speakers.
Omoda intends to send another plug-in hybrid SUV our way later: the C7.
Jaecoo 7 Prices
The Jaecoo 7, which we wrote about earlier, has also arrived in the Netherlands. Like the Omoda 9, it is a plug-in hybrid SUV. The 4.5-meter-long Jaecoo 7 offers 350 hp and 525 Nm and an electric range of 106 kilometers. It is available as Selective from €37,900 and as Exclusive from €39,900.
