Renault Clio drives Dacia Sandero as the most popular car in Europe

Anyway Renault

Renault Clio Facelift

Renault is simply doing a number of things very well at the moment. We see that in the areas of EVs and retro design, but also when it comes to European sales figures. One compact hatchback from this brand is even knocking the other off the number 1 position.

The Dacia Sandero has regularly been in first place in the European sales statistics in recent months. The Renault Clio usually follows quickly, but in April it was the other way around. Dataforce concludes on the basis of preliminary figures that in that month not the Sandero, but the Renault Clio was the most popular car in Europe. The Clio even sold somewhat worse than a year earlier, but managed to stay ahead of the Sandero with 19,820 against 18,852 units. The Volkswagen Tiguan is in 3rd place and was therefore the most popular SUV.

On the next two places we also find compact French hatchbacks, but from that other gigantic manufacturer. Stellantis sees the Peugeot 208 finish fourth, while the fresh Citroën C3 was good for fifth place. The most produced car in France – the Toyota Yaris Cross – is doing well as usual and is the most popular compact crossover in sixth place, the Volkswagen Golf finishes surprisingly high in seventh place, the much older T-Roc follows in 8th and the Dacia Duster is in 9th. The last place in the top 10 is for the ‘regular’ Toyota Yaris.

Most popular cars Europe 2025 to April

Dataforce does not only look at the European Union for these figures, but also at the United Kingdom and the countries of the European Free Trade Association: Norway, Switzerland, Iceland and Liechtenstein.
