Residents Zandvoort Leiden traffic around the garden with trick in Google Maps

Noticeable trick

Zandvoort Traffic Jam (ANP)

The municipality of Zandvoort warns on access roads that road users should turn off their navigation. The municipality has placed several warning signs after an action by residents of the Park neighborhood.

They sent so many reports to Google Maps that the navigation app now reports that the streets there are closed. In apps like Google Maps, users can report accidents or road closures themselves. If enough people indicate the same situation, the app takes over. Dozens of residents of the Park neighborhood reported that their streets were closed, in order to keep motorists out of their neighborhood because they think it is too busy in their parking spaces.

The municipality points out to visitors with the warning signs that they must continue to follow the P signs. A spokesperson for the municipality said they are in discussions with Google to remove the closure of the roads from the app.
