Tesla Model Y and Model 3 Standard have been canceled again

They still exist though

Tesla Model Y Standard

The Tesla Model Y Standard and Model 3 Standard have just arrived, but they have already been scrapped. Both ‘basic models’ now go through life without the ‘Standard’ suffix.

Forgive us the somewhat sensationalist headline, because no versions of the Tesla Model Y and Model 3 have actually been scrapped at all. However, the claim is correct, because there is no longer such a thing as a Tesla Model Y Standard or a Tesla Model 3 Standard. The ‘Standard’ suffix has been removed for both models. Because nothing comes in its place, the cheapest Model Y is now formally called Tesla Model Y Rear-Wheel Drive and the cheapest Model 3 is called – you’ll never guess – Tesla Model 3 Rear-Wheel Drive. For the Model Y, there is also a ‘Model Y Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive’. Above that, the Premium model series traditionally begins for both models, starting with the Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive. All versions without ‘Premium’ or ‘Performance’ in the name are the models we previously knew as Standard.

In the US, a four-wheel-drive version of the ‘standard’ Model Y has also been launched. We haven’t seen that in Europe yet, but who knows, that might change. There, it is also possible again to order the (totally unusable) third row of seats on a Premium AWD; in Europe, that option has not yet returned.
