With this Toyota Prius with almost 400,000 kilometers you can easily drive 1 in 25 for €6,000

Retains Value

Toyota Prius

Does a 17-year-old car from a non-premium brand with almost four hundred thousand kilometers on the odometer still fetch a good price? Yes, if it says Toyota on it. For this Toyota Prius, you’ll still pay over €6,000, but then you’ll drive beautifully and economically.

The current generation Toyota Prius has not been delivered in the Netherlands since last year. That fifth generation only came to us as a plug-in hybrid, breaking with its predecessors, although it certainly wasn’t the first plug-in hybrid Prius. Both its predecessor and the third generation were available with and without a plug. In this article, we’re putting a third-generation Toyota Prius in the spotlight. Not without reason, of course.

Toyota Prius

Toyota Prius: also for the button enthusiast, there’s plenty to do.

This 2009 hybrid Toyota Prius is, of all used Toyota Priuses in the AutoWeek used car offer, the Prius with the highest mileage. The 17-year-old silver Prius has driven over 380,000 kilometers. Is that still worth something? Certainly, it turns out. The seller is still asking €6,349 for it. For that, you get a Prius in Executive trim, which means you won’t miss anything. Automatic lighting, electrically adjustable and heated exterior mirrors, LED headlights with washers, Smart Key, 17-inch alloy wheels, leather upholstery, seat heating, adaptive cruise control, an automatically dimming rearview mirror, automatic wipers, and so on. Even the optional navigation is standard, although you won’t get much use out of that by 2026.

What you also get: technology to be economical with the contents of your fuel tank. It has a 99 hp 1.8 engine and an 82 hp electric motor. This combination is good for a system output of 136 hp. Shifting is done with a CVT. The average consumption, according to factory specifications, is 3.8 l/100 kilometers. That’s 1:26! Not bad given current petrol prices.

Over six thousand euros for a 17-year-old car with 380,000 kilometers of experience doesn’t sound like a bargain. This Toyota, which looks quite fresh apart from a few small spots, is not the only Prius with high mileage that doesn’t go for a pittance. For example, this younger model with about 350,000 kilometers on the odometer costs almost €7,000, and this 2010 model with 320,000 kilometers under its belt costs €5,490.
