It seems like only yesterday that Cupra was spun off as a separate brand from Seat, but already a million cars with the Cupra tribal have been built.
The millionth Cupra is a Formentor e-Hybrid in Magnetic Tech, or ‘matte gray’ in plain language. Cupra reached this milestone in seven years, as in 2018 it was launched as a separate brand with the Cupra Ateca. Before that, it was a sport label reserved for the fastest Seat models. We won’t beat around the bush: Cupra as a brand also raised some eyebrows among us. The added value alongside Seat seemed (seems?) debatable, and opinions on that copper-colored logo are divided, but the fact is that Cupra is now a well-established brand name in the European automotive landscape. Cupra presents itself as sportier and hipper than Seat, is positioned higher in the market, and besides converted Seats, it now also has various models of its own.
Cupra will continue to grow for a while, as the brand, along with its parent company Seat SA, plays an important role in the electric future of the Volkswagen Group. The Spanish branch is set to take the lead in the new small EVs from Cupra, Volkswagen, and Skoda, and besides its own Cupra Raval, it will also build the Volkswagen ID.Polo in Martorell, Spain. That won’t take much longer: production of both newcomers will start there from 2026.
