Slow delivery
More than 16,000 Citroën riders in the Netherlands are still waiting for a new airbag. They have received the advice from the manufacturer to no longer go on the road to explode defective airbags that can explode in the event of a collision. However, the delivery of new airbags is slow, which means that replacement will probably take weeks.
In the Netherlands, the recall applies to more than 33,000 Citroëns of the C3 and DS3 models with the year of construction between 2009 and 2019. Citroën-mother company Stellantis strongly advised motorists at the end of last month to leave them after a woman died of injuries caused by an airbag of Takata.
According to Stellantis, more than 21,000 airbags have now been delivered to dealers and repairers. The company denies that there are delivery problems. “The delivery of Airbags takes place on a daily basis; however, it is impossible to operate everyone at the same time.”
BOVAG, the branch organization of dealers in the Netherlands, says that between 40 and 50 percent of the cars were made. Another quarter of the victims has already made an appointment with their dealer. “The situation differs greatly from dealer to dealer. They depend on the delivery by Stellantis,” says a spokesperson.
The large car dealer group in Mossel receives around 150 airbags every day. According to director Eric Berkhof, the Citroën dealers from the group, who are mainly in Noord-Holland, expect to replace the airbags at around 3200 cars. That happened at 1700. For the other cars, Berkhof thinks he needs two and a half to three weeks. Duped motorists can also receive replacement transport at the dealer, he adds.
