Not good for competitive position
According to experts, Trump’s ‘Big Beautiful Bill’ could cause uneconomical and inefficient car models to experience a real revival. At least: in America.
The ‘Beautiful Bill,’ as Trump himself calls it, doesn’t actually do anything to CO2 or consumption standards. They remain as they are, but there is one difference: automakers will no longer face fines if they do not meet those standards. That is a big difference compared to before and with Europe, where automakers almost sign their own death warrant if they do not meet the increasingly strict standards.
According to Automotive News, the relaxation of the fines could easily mean that V8s will soon be flying around your ears again. Automotive News spoke to several experts about this, although this outcome is of course a bit of an open door. On the other hand, relaxing these standards may also have major disadvantages for the American auto industry, which, according to experts, may lag behind on the world stage due to a lesser focus on ‘green’ and ‘electric’.
It is actually what we brought this morning about Europe, but on a different scale. Here, the ambition to ban the sale of non-electric cars by 2035 may be tampered with, but according to experts, that would also cost jobs and money in the long term instead of saving it.
