Recall
Stellantis has called for 82,000 Citroëns of the C3 and DS3 types to be taken off the road in France. The cars have a defective airbag of the Takata brand. The call follows a week after a woman in Reims died from injuries caused by one of these airbags. She was in a 2014 Citroën C3.
Citroën falls under Stellantis, as do brands such as Fiat and Opel. For all C3 and DS3 Citroëns produced between 2014 and 2019, the call has now been made to stop driving them, according to a Stellantis spokesperson. The French Ministry of Transport had previously urged such a recall.
Since 2014, many cars with Takata airbags have been recalled, including in the Netherlands. The Japanese Takata went bankrupt three years later. Due to a production error, the airbags could explode, sending metal particles through the car. Multiple drivers worldwide have died as a result.
At the beginning of this year, more than 45,000 Citroëns of those types were recalled to the garage in the Netherlands due to problems with the airbag in question. The Netherlands only got its turn for the recall at that time because countries with a warm and humid climate were given priority. There, the risk of problems with the airbags was greater. At the time, the group did not consider it necessary for owners of the cars in question to stop driving as a precaution.
