Toyota is working on new fuel engines, including a big V8

New Engine Family

Toyota is showing many precursors in Japan, but is keeping technical information somewhat under wraps. However, some information has emerged about what Toyota plans in terms of engines.

During the unveiling of the various study models from Toyota, Lexus and the new luxury top brand Century, Toyota was not very generous with technical information. Somewhat expected, since we are dealing with study models here. However, some information is leaking out about what Toyota plans when it’s time for the real work. For example, we already heard that the next Toyota Corolla will also get a fuel cell, but the Japanese are not forgetting combustion engines either. On the contrary.

Toyota is working on a new engine family, as CarExpert picks up. The smallest in the series will be a turbocharged 1.5 four-cylinder, one step up is a 2.0. The latter power source was already placed in the special mid-engine GR Yaris earlier this year. V8s are also coming. Yes indeed, probably two different power sources, although they might be basically the same. Toyota hints that the V8 strongly resembles the 2.0 four-cylinder. What displacement it will have is not yet clear. A 4.0 would be logical if it becomes twice the 2.0 not only in cylinders but also in displacement.

That Toyota is working on a V8 is no surprise. After all, the Japanese are coming with a possible supercar with an eight-cylinder that might be purely intended for racing. However, you can count on the roar of a new Toyota V8 being heard on public roads as well. Takashi Uehara, head of power sources at Toyota, lets CarExpert know that the production version of the Lexus Sport Concept (photos above this article) will get a V8.
