Volvo EX90 is already thoroughly renewed: stronger, new batteries and 800 volts

From 400 to 800 volts and as six -seater

The Volvo EX90 is only briefly on the market, but is already receiving a major adjustment. The electric SUV changes from 400 to 800 Volt architecture. That entails higher loading capacities, but probably also some disappointment for those who already have an EX90.

We had to wait a while on the Dutch market introduction of the Volvo EX90. About two years after the electric SUV was presented, the first copies rolled off the band in mid -2024. Anyone who now drives a Volvo EX90 will undoubtedly scratch their ears. The Volvo EX90 is already undergoing a considerable technical change. The electronic architecture of the Volvo EX90 changes from 400 to 800 V. We can imagine that this for those who have waited a long time on the EX90 and has now feels like a bitter pill.

Thanks to the 800 V-on -board voltage, the Volvo EX90 can load faster. The maximum DC loading capacity just like before 250 kW, but according to Volvo, the new 800V architecture reduces heat development during charging ‘making faster loading speeds possible’. In addition, Volvo has also improved the battery management software. According to Volvo you can now charge 250 kilometers of action radius in 10 minutes.

New batteries and engines

There is more. Much more. For example, Volvo brings new electric motors and new batteries to the EX90. The Volvo EX90 single engine was 279 hp strong and had a 104 kWh (net) battery, good for a range of 580 kilometers. The EX90 single engine now has an 88 kWh battery (net) and is 333 hp strong. With 570 kilometers in absolute sense, the range is smaller, but is relatively neat. The EX90 single engine is considerably rapper. From now on he sprints in 6.8 seconds from a standstill to a speed of 100 km/h (earlier: 8.4 seconds). Also nice: the maximum towing weight has increased by 300 kilos to 1,500 kilos. The new battery and the electric motors are lighter than before and that is of course also a profit.

The Twin Motor and Twin Motor Performance change their 102 kWh (net) batteries for 111 kWh (net) large specimens. The Twin Motor combines it with two together 456 hp strong electric motors. The Twin engine was previously 408 hp strong. With its higher power, the EX90 Twin engine buzzes in 5.5 seconds from a standstill to a speed of 100 km/h. His reach: 620 kilometers. That is one kilometer more than the Twin engine came earlier.

The Volvo EX90 Twin Motor Performance is of course a lot more potent than the Twin engine. He was 517 hp strong, but now sets no less than 680 hp. The action radius has grown by 520 kilometers with 5 kilometers. In just 4.2 seconds, the EX90 Twin Motor Performance stamps to a speed of 100 km/h. For the adjustment -it did that in 4.9 seconds.

Pass through

Volvo does more than revise the powertrain lines. For example, the electrochromatic the darkened panoramic roof is now also available on the EX90. It is standard on the ultra and optional for the Plus version. The infotainment system now runs on – we quotes Volvo – “A double nvidia drive AGX orin -based core computer with 500 tops computing power.” This means, among other things, that the system works faster. Things like the re -assistance systems must also become faster and more accurate. The EX90 must also be able to start up faster after having stood still for a long time. Volvo also says it has improved energy management in parking position. Thanks to an improved sleep mode, the range is better retained. Here is good news for those who already have an EX90. Volvo’s EX90 of model year 2025 will receive a free upgrade from the computer.

The EX90 news continues. The electric SUV is now also there as six -seater. Interesting: that configuration is also available for the single engine in Core version, although the EX90 Single Motor Core does lose the possibility of being dressed as a seven-seater. The other versions are available as six and seven-seater.
