‘Car of the Future’
The Xpeng P7 doesn’t have a long life ahead of it. At least, the P7 you know now. We recently presented you with the first photos of the new Xpeng P7, and now we have more information about what the Chinese themselves call ‘the car of the future’.
On May 15, Xpeng released the first images of the new P7 to the world via its Chinese social channels. The appearance of the Xpeng P7 holds few secrets anymore. At least, that’s what we thought. We have unearthed a new series of photos of the second-generation Xpeng P7 from the database of the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. On one of those plates, we see that there will be a variant of the P7 with genuine butterfly doors.
The new Xpeng P7 will also get a winged version.
That is surprising on the one hand. Butterfly doors on an electric sedan are, of course, not commonplace. On the other hand, we know this trick from Xpeng. There was also a limited-edition version of the current generation P7 available in China with such doors: the P7 Wing.
We not only have new photos, but also more information about the new P7. The new Xpeng P7 is 5.02 meters long, exceeding its predecessor in length by no less than 14 centimeters. The new P7 is not only longer than the current model, but with its width of 1.97 meters, it is also considerably (8 centimeters) wider. In addition, Xpeng’s youngest is, at 1.43 meters, two centimeters lower than the model it will soon replace. The wheelbase, at 3.008 meters, is exactly one centimeter larger than before.
More information? We have it. For example, we know that there will be a 367 hp rear-wheel drive variant and that there is a version in the works that has, in addition to a 367 hp unit on the rear axle, a 227 hp unit on the front axle. The rear-wheel drive variant will come as Standard Range with an LFP battery and as Long Range with an NMC battery. The four-wheel drive version will only get the NMC battery.
