The Renault 5 E-Tech Electric has been in production for fifteen months, which is long enough to reach a significant milestone. 100,000 units have already been built.
Free baguette with brie for lunch today for the men and women in Douai: they have assembled the 100,000th Renault 5 E-Tech Electric. This milestone was reached in fifteen months, with production starting in the summer of 2024. The 100,000th unit was a Techno with the 52 kWh battery pack. A standard fair example. By the way, the Renault 5-derived cars, the Nissan Micra and Alpine A290, are not included. They do roll off the same production line, and the Renaults Megane and Scenic and the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross are also built in Douai. The Renault 5 accounts for as much as two-thirds of the production there.
The Renault 5 E-Tech Electric is therefore well on its way, but still has a long way to go to match its great example of yesteryear. No less than 5.27 million of the first Renault 5 were built, and successor ‘Supercinq’ accounted for another 3.43 million units. In the Netherlands alone, Renault sold over 11,000 5s in 1985, equivalent to 11 percent of the total number of R5s built by the current generation. The new R5 has so far accounted for over 4,100 units in the Netherlands this year.
