Citroën BX from Flodder is now more than four times as expensive as in 1986

Oh neighbor, what are you doing now?

Citroen BX 19 Sport

You don’t see a Citroën BX every day anymore, let alone a 19 Sport. There’s one for sale now that’s almost 4.5 times more expensive than it cost new about 40 years ago. This isn’t just any 19 Sport, but the bright red movie star from the first Flodder film.

When you say Flodder, you immediately picture the antisocial family in the fictional neighborhood of Zonnedael in the equally fictional Amstelhaeghe. From Ma Flodder smoking cigars to both the son and daughter named Kees. Just over 27 years after the last episode of the television series aired, the characters are still alive in the memory of many. Also still alive: the Citroën BX 19 Sport that played a role in the first Flodder film from 1986. And it’s for sale!

Exclusive Car Company in Lelystad has an extensive range of used cars for sale. From BMW 6-series to Porsche 911s and Volkswagen Ups. Also for sale: a bright red Citroën 19 Sport. Indeed, the car from the Flodder film. According to the seller, the BX 19 Sport was completely restored over a period of two years by a Citroën dealer, after which the car was kept indoors and rarely taken outside. The restoration reportedly went so far that “[…] even the stickers that should be on it from the factory were newly produced and replaced on the hood. Furthermore, items like the rear curtains have been reupholstered,” we read in the advertisement.

The Citroën BX 19 Sport has 135,000 kilometers on the odometer, although the engine block has been completely overhauled. It’s certainly not a bargain. The 1986 BX 19 Sport has an asking price of €69,950, making it more than four times as expensive as it cost new 39 years ago. This substantial price can’t only be explained by the fame and condition of this particular example. A BX 19 Sport is extremely rare in itself, as it’s not just any version.

Built up

The Citroën BX 19 Sport was produced between 1985 and 1987 and was then the most powerful variant of the BX. The BX GTI didn’t exist yet, and the more powerful 16v variant of that certainly didn’t. The Citroën BX 19 Sport was – if we temporarily forget the 4TC rally version – perhaps the most imposing looking BX that would ever come. Of course, the BX GTi and BX GTi 16V also looked relatively powerful, but none of them could match the BX 19 Sport with its widened front and rear aprons. Side skirts, a rear spoiler, alloy wheels that later came to the GTi, and a sporty interior made and still make the BX 19 Sport an impressive appearance. This moving piece of Citroën and film history is propelled by a 126 hp strong XU9 four-cylinder gasoline engine, complete with dual carburetors. This 169 Nm strong machine helps the museum piece reach 100 km/h in just under 9 seconds. World-shocking in 2025? Absolutely not, but anyone who buys this BX 19 Sport to bully Golf GTIs with it should stay far away from them.
