New and Existing Works
People in the Amsterdam and Haarlemmermeer regions are advised not to travel by road next weekend. Rijkswaterstaat warns of “extreme disruption” around the capital due to new and existing roadworks, which coincide with the start of the summer vacation in the North region.
Rijkswaterstaat will begin roadworks on the A4 near Amsterdam on Friday evening. On Saturday, the second Coentunnel will be closed for maintenance. These works coincide with ongoing maintenance on the A10 and the start of the summer vacation in the North region. Rijkswaterstaat warns of “extreme disruption”. The ANWB also expects that the combination of departing holiday traffic and roadworks will lead to traffic jams from Friday afternoon.
The A4 is being worked on between the De Hoek and Burgerveen junctions. Until Wednesday, August 20, fewer lanes will be available there. The remaining lanes will be narrower. Among other things, the asphalt of the A4 will be replaced. The Second Coentunnel will be closed for major maintenance. The fire resistance of the tunnel tube will be improved and the asphalt will be replaced. New lighting will also be installed and better cameras will be installed.
During the works, which will last until Monday, September 15, traffic cannot pass through the tunnel from Amsterdam-West to Amsterdam-Noord and Zaanstad. The start of the works on the tunnel and the A4 coincide with the closure of the A10 South and East ring road towards Hengelo. These will last until July 12. Rijkswaterstaat therefore calls on road users to work from home or choose other transport.
Events such as Bospop near Weert and North Sea Jazz in Ahoy Rotterdam may also cause local delays this weekend.
More works in the country
Roadworks are also being carried out elsewhere in the country during the summer, including in Limburg on the A76 between Simpelveld and Nuth. This job will be completed on July 16. A day later, renovation work will begin on the Spijkenissebrug near Rotterdam.
From July 25, it will be important to pay attention to the A27 between the Everdingen and Gorinchem junctions. This road will be closed from August 1 to 13.
Friday, July 25 is also the start date for works on the A58 near Breda. Work will first be carried out between the De Stok and Princeville junctions towards Breda, and from August 4 on the other side towards Bergen op Zoom.
The provisional final piece of the roadworks this summer is the maintenance of the A12 towards Utrecht. From August 22 to September 1, the road between the Maanderbroek and Lunetten junctions will be closed due to asphalting work.
