Less speed, less nitrogen
The province of Gelderland wants to ask the government to lower the maximum speed on the highways near the Veluwe from 120 to 100 kilometers per hour in the evenings and at night.
Stricter controls should also be implemented, such as setting up route controls, according to plans drawn up by the province to reduce nitrogen emissions. This concerns the A1, A12, A28 and A50 highways.
The province is working on a package of measures to emit less nitrogen and get the permit granting process going again. Due to a ruling by the Council of State that severely restricts the shifting of nitrogen space, it has come to a virtual standstill in the provinces.
Gelderland wants to establish strips of 500 meters around vulnerable nature areas in which emissions must be reduced considerably. According to the provincial executive, approximately a quarter of the emissions in those zones are attributable to mobility, which includes traffic. According to Gelderland, farming companies account for about 65 percent.
