Mercedes-Benz G-class homeless, but not for the homeless

Open and thick

Brabus 800 XL Cabrio (Mercedes-Benz G-class)

An official convertible version of the Mercedes-Benz G-Class is coming, but Brabus doesn’t want to wait for it. This is the Brabus 800 Cabrio.

The Mercedes-Benz G-Class already comes in all shapes and sizes, but the current generation is not yet officially available as a convertible. That will change, as Mercedes-Benz hinted at the beginning of September. At Brabus, they don’t want to wait until then and have already sawed into the G-Class. You can see the result here.

The Brabus 800 Cabrio dubbed creation is immediately available in two flavors. Let’s start with the most striking: the ‘Pale Brown’ painted Brabus 800 XL Cabrio with a bright red interior. The XL part of the name already indicates that this is a more intense version. That is mainly due to the height, because this one has a ground clearance of no less than 47.9 cm. The suspension has been extensively adjusted and reinforced by Brabus, so you should be able to go completely wild in the mud with this palace on wheels. That should be possible with the 4.0 biturbo V8, which has been increased to no less than 800 hp. If you have a stable and well-asphalted surface, you should also be able to shoot from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.6 seconds.

Slightly more subtle (although ‘subtle’ is very relative in this case) is the regular Brabus 800 Cabrio. It is a bit lower above the ground and is also a bit less striking with its black body. At the same time, the body is extra thick thanks to numerous new panels, lips and spoilers. This version is also a bit faster than the XL, because it already sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4 seconds. Incidentally, in both cases the top speed is limited to a fairly modest 210 km/h. Good to know: Brabus specifies an average consumption (WLTP) of 1 in 6.8 for the 800 Cabrio. The XL even drives an average of only 5 km on one liter of petrol. Swallow.
