Is three times ship right?
Just a few years ago, Nissan came up with the Qashqai with e-Power powertrain. A unique three -cylinder series hybrid with variable compression. In theory the holy grail, in practice that turned out to be disappointing. And so the new Qashqai e-Power is equipped with a completely new powertrain. Is three times then ship right?
Wait a minute: three times ship’s right? Isn’t this only the second Nissan Qashqai e-Power?
That’s right, only the Nissan Qashqai e-Power was not the first Nissan with e-Power. In Japan there was already an earlier generation of e-Power that we did not receive. Nissan therefore calls the new e-Power powertrain the third generation internally. Do you know that again. The innovations are on top of the changes that the Nissan Qashqai has previously received at his larger facelift. In this case we therefore concentrate a bit more specifically in the e-Power section.
Third generation of the e-Power powertrain in the Nissan Qashqai is more compact, more efficient and less unique.
What’s new about the Nissan Qashqai e-Power powertrain?
Well, almost everything at the Nissan Qashqai e-Power powertrain is new. In fact, only the 2.1-kWh battery comes over from the previous one and the rest of the powertrain is completely new. The 1.5 three -cylinder may have the same amount of content and cylinders, according to Nissan there is no nut equal to the old 1.5. You know, the engine that was the first in the world to have variable compression, a novelty that is now being referred to the history books. The new engine is therefore not equipped with that technique, but it does have a lower stroke and a larger turbo. DAR brings the thermal return to 42 percent and that is pretty much the maximum that you can get with a combustion engine. Thanks to that larger turbo, the 1.5 also has to run fewer speeds if power is requested. The 1.5 still never delivers that power to the wheels. Instead, it is actually your own power plant, the power is used by the now 205 hp electric motor and/or on the 2.1-kWh battery. Incidentally, the 1.5 delivers a maximum of 158 hp, but in practice it is not possible to go full gas for so long that the electric motor can no longer deliver its maximum power. And for that 205 hp you have to use the sports mode anyway, otherwise you will get 190 hp just like before.
How does the technology work in the Nissan Qashqai e-Power?
The first thing that stands out on board the Nissan Qashqai e-Power is that the Hybrid Stiller does its job than before. Especially in a partial load it is almost no longer possible to hear if and how hard the 1.5 is at work. You don’t feel it either, since the new 5-in-1 concept is a lot more compact and stiffer, so that fewer vibrations can be felt. Only when you ask for more than 70 percent power do you notice that there is a combustion engine on board. Shortly, because above 90 km/h the wind noise actually drains the three -cylinder. In that respect, Nissan’s claim is that the experience is almost that of a BEV is not even that far away from the truth. We cannot make definitive statements about the alleged improvement of consumption based on the first introduction, but it seems that the Qashqai consumes less on the highway, especially on the highway. It makes the e-Power even more than before the logical choice for the Qashqai buyer.
The interior of the Nissan Qashqai was updated last year, that also all applies to the E-Power.
Other changes to the Nissan Qashqai e-Power?
Although the Qashqai already had a large facelift last year, Nissan also found some room for improvement at detailed level. At the time, the most important change was a greatly improved infotainment system that runs on Google Software. Apart from privacy reasons, that is one of the fastest and best software that you can put in a car. In addition, the Qashqai is still quite spacious car and there are some detailed changes as said. New exterior mirror covers and a smoother bottom plate on the front must improve the air resistance coefficient and the use of smaller brake discs can now also be ordered with 17 inch wheels. In addition, the instruments now shows more of what the Propilot system sees around the car. Incidentally, that self -driving system now indeed works better, but still not flawless. As soon as the highway becomes a bit winding, you have to adjust yourself to stay in the middle of the lane. Despite those kinds of beauty errors, the Nissan Qashqai e-Power is ready to make the third time ship right.
