Opel is putting on its hiking boots and giving the Frontera a pair too. This is the Opel Frontera Gravel.
Before the Frontera model name returned on a relatively compact and electric or non-electric SUV, Frontera was the name of an Opel-ized Isuzu MU that you could survive a trip next to the asphalt with. The new Opel Frontera is a car of a completely different order. The compact, spacious crossover is now available in quite a few flavors, but a four-wheel drive variant is still missing. That will probably come, otherwise Opel would not have come up with the Frontera Gravel concept car that is now on your screen.
The Opel Frontera Gravel is an electric Frontera Electric that stands on 16-inch light alloy wheels with off-road rubber. The show car was created in collaboration with Opel’s motorsport and tuning partners BlackFish and XS and is equipped with, among other things, a Thule roof rack, spotlights on the hood, a winch and a storage box pressed against the C-pillar.
Opel says nothing further about the powertrain, but you can count on the presence of an extra electric motor that in this case interferes with the rear wheels. Will there be a production version? That remains to be seen. As the car is currently dressed, you will not be able to order it from Opel. However, it is not impossible that the Frontera Electric will eventually get a four-wheel drive variant.
