Opel Mokka GSE: 280 hp and 0-100 km/h in less than 6 counts

Chasing the Junior Veloce

Opel Mokka GSE

Just like the Alfa Romeo Junior, the German cousin of that car now also has a sporty top version. It’s not called Veloce, but GSe. The Opel Mokka GSe is 280 hp strong, very fast, and looks great.

Stellantis is a master at sharing powertrains, so you could bet that the 280 hp electric powertrain that ended up in the Alfa Romeo Junior Veloce wouldn’t be reserved for that car alone. The Lancia Ypsilon is now available as a 280 hp HF, the Peugeot 208 as a 280 hp GTi, and now the Opel Mokka also gets access to the 280 electric horses. This is the Opel Mokka GSe, a sporty top version of the electric Mokka Electric.

With its 280 hp electric motor on the front wheels, the Opel Mokka GSe sprints from standstill to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds. The top speed is electronically limited to 200 km/h. For comparison, the regular Mokka Electric needs exactly 9 seconds for the 0-100 sprint and has a top speed of 150 km/h. A significant difference. Like the milder 156 hp Mokka, the Mokka GSe has a 54 kWh battery. Opel has not yet stated how many kilometers the sporty Mokka can squeeze out of it. The milder Mokkas achieve a range of 402 kilometers with it. We are betting on a slightly smaller range for the GSe.

Opel Mokka GSE

Of course, the Opel Mokka GSe is more than just a Mokka Electric with a stronger electric motor. For example, it has a mechanical limited-slip differential, new shock absorbers, a considerably stiffer rear axle, extra powerful brakes, and a more sharply tuned steering system. The GSe is one centimeter closer to the asphalt than the 156 hp versions. From the outside, you can recognize the Mokka GSe by its thicker bumper work all around, as well as the new 20-inch light-alloy wheels that Opel factory-mounts with Michelin Pilot Sport EV rubber in size 225/40. The brake calipers behind the light metal are painted yellow. Incidentally, you will find yellow details in more places, including in the interior loaded with white and yellow accents. At the front you will find sports seats upholstered with alcantara with integrated headrests, as well as a steering wheel flattened at both the bottom and top and aluminum pedals.
