There is a new Chinese player in the Netherlands: Changan. Initially, it is launching two models here: the Deepal S05 and the Deepal S07. The smaller of the two is meant to compete with the Volkswagen ID4. AutoWeek has the prices.
You may know Changan as the Chinese joint venture partner of Mazda. Together, the two companies have developed the electric Mazda 6e based on an electric sedan from Changan. The Mazda 6e will get an electric SUV equivalent, which also shares its basis with a car from Changan. In any case, Changan is also coming our way itself. It is doing so with the Deepal S05 and the larger S07. Time to go through the smallest of the two.
Although, small … The Changan Deepal S05 is a 4.6-meter long, 1.9-meter wide, and 1.6-meter high electric SUV. Its wheelbase: 2.88 meters. In terms of length, it is comparable to the Volkswagen ID4, although the Deepal S05 has 11 centimeters more between the front and rear axles.
The minimum 1,940 kg Changan Deepal S05 will come our way with two powertrains. The Deepal S05 festivities begin with the Changan Deepal S05 RWD Pro. This has a 272 hp and 290 Nm electric motor on the rear axle, good for a 0-100 sprint in 7.5 seconds and a top speed of 180 km/h. More interesting is the battery. This is a 68.8-kWh LFP battery that offers a range of 485 kilometers. Fast charging is possible with 200 kW, although you only reach that power between 5 and 10 percent (SoC). Charging from 10 to 80 percent goes with 168 kW.
The Changan Deepal S05 with this powertrain costs a minimum of €38,990. It is also available as a more richly equipped Max and then costs €41,990. The starting price of just under 39 grand is comparable to that of the Volkswagen ID4. With the ID4, for €39,990 you get 170 hp and a 52-kWh battery that delivers a range of 357 kilometers. On paper, the Changan therefore offers more for less.
Anyone who wants four-wheel drive is dependent on the Deepal S05 EV AWD Max. This has a 272 hp electric motor on the rear axle and a 163 hp example on the front axle. Like the other variant, the strongest Deepal S05 also has a 68.8-kWh LFP battery, in this case good for a range of 445 kilometers.
Equipment
The Deepal S05 is an SUV with frameless windows and door handles recessed in the doors. The basic version stands on 18-inch light-alloy wheels, has electrically foldable, adjustable and heated door mirrors, electrically adjustable front seats, seats covered with synthetic leather and a fairly extensive package of active and passive safety systems. The Max versions are considerably more richly equipped. These include a panoramic roof, an indicator in the C-pillar that indicates the charging status, windscreen heating, an electrically operated tailgate, steering wheel and seat heating, seat ventilation, more extensive electrically adjustable furniture, an induction charger, a head-up display and a more extensive audio system.
